History

China Knot was founded in 2013 by Chinese entrepreneur and global businesswoman Shirley Tan.

Born in China and fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and English, Shirley Tan began her career working in the wine and spirits division for luxury goods giant LVMH as Sales Manager for North China in Beijing and later East China in Shanghai. During her six years, Shirley directed sales and marketing programmes for a number of premium brands in China, including Veuve Clicquot Champagne and Baron Philippe de Rothschild.

In 2003, Shirley launched her own fine wine import and distribution company, East Meets West Fine Wines. Under Shirley’s directorship EMW Fine Wines achieved great success establishing a powerful distribution network across China with regional offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu and Hong Kong.

After 10 years at the helm, Shirley Tan left EMW to begin a formal consultancy service working with clients in a number of industries including international media publishing and fine wine production and distribution.

Shirley launched China Knot in July 2013 and has been growing a network of key contacts and market operators from the company’s European and Asia headquarters.

Shirley currently splits her time between China Knot’s operations in London and Shanghai.
